I’ve watched the various Canadian networks cover the Pope’s visit to Toronto for World Youth Day. Today in the National Post the editorial comments, /Many many thousands of young people have come from the corners of the world to Toronto to fulfill the Pope’s wish for them to do so — and to share with him their love of Christ. They have not come to debate political or social matters but to deepen their relationship with God, and to pray. … This does not compute in the mind of those middle aged bien pensents for whom the idea of moral certainty is alien and traditional institutional religion abhorrent. But it will not go away merely because too many intellegent people cannot understand it./ Although sometimes I think the CBC struggles with overt bias I have to admit to having been impressed with the CBC’s efforts to convey that at its core, this is and is designed to be a spiritual event.
