Building Out A Network

“Terry Semel’s vision and plan was to build deeper and stronger relationships with users and then go out and build, buy and partner to make value,” Dan Rosensweig, chief operating officer at Yahoo, said in an interview Wednesday. “Once you put that strategy in place, the focus is on how to best do that.”

This quote resonated with me. Yesterday I was having a discussion with a colleague about what type of business we are in. I know lately I’ve been reading a lot about social software and evolving community networks. Applications like ours that process messaging, documents and tracking information are not necessarily like these…but because we are running the servers, the support, the system itself we feel like a community provider. There are so many things in our systems that are not yet built but I think the idea that we have a long term, daily, and entwined relationship with our customers means it will be more viable for us as a business to grow with out customers expertise, requirements, in particular as their confidence with web systems improve.

Not sure what I’m trying to say…will think more on it.
