Information Silo’s

NYTimes - New intelligence agency within the FBI recommended

“Yuck; YABS (yet another bureaucratic silo) will not work.  The flow of the information is limited (a single degree of freedom) and it promotes information hoarding.  What would happen if the FBI, the CIA, state and local law enforcement, the military (intelligence, special ops, line commands), and any other international organization we trust used weblogs, RSS information routing, add-on tools (weblog + tools), and powerful search at the most basic level?  The DC sniper case could have been solved quickly after the first attack by searching FBI agent weblogs (that  included interview transcripts and notes) for the word “sniper.”  A report of unusual flight training activity by suspicious individuals could have been a search away.

A law enforcement and intelligence “Web” that uses simple publishing tools to capture and archive information isn’t rocket science.  It isn’t a fad.  It’s a must have.
