Hong Kong and Mars

Safely in Hong Kong. 15 hours is a long flight any way you look at it. Of course not quite as long as going to Mars, which I also have to admit is fascinating me…here’s a good post which sums it up I think (oh, and I am a space nerd, I’ll admit that) -

“NASA’s current Mars exploration amazes me. I don’t generally fall into the “space nerd” category, but pictures are something I can understand, and the pictures consistently amaze me.

At first glance, it just looks like a boring desert, like everyone forgot to show up for Burning Man or something. But then you remember — this picture is from another planet. Not rendered on a computer for some movie, but a real-life other planet. The nearest Starbucks is like 46 million miles away.

How cool that we can drop a robot vehicle on another planet and drive it around and take pictures. Mind-boggling.

Confidential to T-Mobile: NASA is downloading 36 MB TIFFs from Mars and I only get 2 bars of signal on my cell phone inside my house. Please look into upgrading.” [~stevenf]
