As some of you may know there’s a leadership race (not that it’s drawing much interest) for Canada’s new Conservative Party (which is a merger of the two main ‘right wing’ parties). Anyways today a new candidate, Belinda Stronach announced her candidacy. It’s a good thing for the country to have a young business person (or young anyone) wanting to get active in politics. There’s of course lots of calls about her business credentials being nothing but gifts from her father (who founded the 72,000 employee business she is CEO of), however putting up with institutional shareholders (oh and almost doubling the share price in three years during a manufacturing downturn) calls for a stiffer sprit (and set of skills) than inheritance alone I’d think (by the way, being a hands off CEO is much harder than it sounds…ask Jack Welch). At least the race will be more interesting now.

Anyways, I couldn’t get a quicktime feed of her announcement today from her new site (to hear what she actually sounds like or stands for) but I did click through the beginnings of a pretty good political web site. Lots of interesting political websites showing how to do that right these days (no endorsements intended).

I was also curious to check out the sites of the other people running for the leadership of the new party. I googled the front runner (and current leader of the opposition). I found his current party site at the top but not his campaign site. Turns out the Stronach campaign has purchased the google adword [mid right side of the picture] for any searches on Stephen Harper (and Tony Clement for that matter). Already bringing a bit of business thinking to the world of Canadian politics…nice.
